For an international company, specialized in commodity trading, I'm looking for a Trading Trainee who is eager to learn and kick start his career with a traineeship! During the 24 months of this traineeship, you’ll work in various departments and learn all there is about the Commodity Trading industry. The traineeship starts in September 2019 and you’ll work throughout the following departments in the Rotterdam office.
Within this department you will learn the basis of the business. In cooperation with other internal departments and field offices, this department follow up on trades done by the commercial department from an administrative and logistical perspective. You will have a wide range of tasks, ranging from matching purchases and sales in the most efficient manner, appointing and handling further contact with cargo surveyors, to securing that the bookkeeping is in order.
The Chartering Department makes sure all worldwide commodity trade deals can be loaded into a vessel and shipped to their destinations. As a trainee, you will join the Chartering Operations team and be exposed to their day-to-day challenges, such as monitoring the weather, the safety arrangements, and the legal position.
Risk Management / Finance
The Risk department is responsible for the day-to-day analysis and distribution of the company’s global market exposures to traders and management. Such reports include volumetric positions, value at risk calculations, and daily P&L and option analysis.
The Finance department is divided into four divisions, which are Corporate and Credit, Structured Finance, Treasury, and Trade Finance. You will join each of these departments.
Trade coordination / Research
This department covers the Trade, Chartering and Operations departments. It’s responsible for the planning of contract obligations and reassuring efficient asset turnaround. Furthermore, it’s focused on continuously optimizing current and creating new business.
The Research department produces a monthly supply and demand and trade flow book, coordinating and collating the S&D data from the regional offices. They forecast policy and prices of import/export, creating parity analyses. Besides building price/profitability models, you will join discussions with the trade teams to identify directional, inter/intra market, geographical and cross-commodity spread opportunities and arbitrages.
Trade Accounting / Group Reporting
Trade Accounting is focused on the preparation and analysis of the worldwide trading results, as well as producing management reports for trading desks in Rotterdam and around the group. An important cornerstone of the trading results is the valuation of the carious trading brooks, including derivatives.
The Group Reporting department is responsible for the monthly consolidation and group reporting for the entire group, existing of over 180 countries. The team also handles the quarterly forecasting and yearly budgeting process together with the Business Planning & Analysis team. Resulting in deliverables such as consolidated external financial statements as well as management report for shareholders and internal management.
Field office (abroad)
In the final stage of the traineeship, you will go to one of the field offices to work on a project to gain international exposure to the business. The destination and duration can vary regarding the current business challenges.
Skills & Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in (Financial) Economics, Mathematics, Econometric, Business Management or similar study.
- 0 – 3 years of experience
- Relevant internship / work experience, preferably in the Commodity Trading industry
- Good IT skills
- Fluent in English
- Ambitious, communicative and proactive
- Social, analytical and accurate
- A unique traineeship of 24 months within an international company in the city centre of Rotterdam
- The possibility to work across all departments of the company
- Salary indication of €2500 – 2800 gross, based on a 40 hour working week
